It’s not everyday that I’m offered a 24 carat gold cappuccino to go with my gold dusted cake slice.

So when the invite came, I jumped on it. Naturally. Duh!

The Coffee Club is an Australian specialty coffee chain that has 5 branches in the UAE, including the brand new one that opened at the Golden Mile Mall in Palm Jumeirah couple of days back. The launch of this outlet was made loud with the presence of these words in the black & gold themed invite the PR Company smartly sent out. Those words were:

“24 Carat Gold Cappuccino”.

Call it culinary fascination or the weird Indian obsession with the glitzy, chunky gold metal, I found myself dragging along my sleepy husband and my sleepier child to the café opening in the unknown, alien territories of Palm Jumeirah.

So there I was, saying hello to my blogger friends and media acquaintances, drumming my fingers on the table, (not-so) patiently waiting for my Golden Coffee to turn up.

And what a sight it was.

It was the most glorious looking beverage, probably in the history of mankind. The cappuccino was dusted with gold, with the wafer thin decoration made of 24 carat gold gently placed in the center, giving it the appearance of exquisite splendor.

While it looked like the best thing on the planet, unfortunately, the coffee itself was a little too mild for my taste. The Coffee Club supports sustainable farming and uses UTZ certified beans, yet, that night the brew wavered and faltered under the luxurious splash of the gold dust and media ruckus around.

Served alongside the coffee, were a series of canapés, desserts and mocktails. The dessert table was set in pomp and glory, with each one of the delectable creations dusted with gold, no less! There was not a thing to complain about, really. Every slice was crumbly, creamy and chocolaty, as and where so needed.

The canapés floated around, lavishly and unabashedly. Different platters suiting to the vegetarians, meat-eaters and seafood lovers were presented, beautifully decorated with piped cheese and fillings. If anything, it made me want to elaborately try out the savory items on their menu. A mental note was duly made for another visit in future.

With a prop studio and an enthusiastic magician performing in the background, I was still able to focus on some more desserts before preparing to leave. The press kit in shiny gold (ring a bell?) envelope opened up to show me two dining vouchers at the café worth AED 75 each. The plan to return and try the regular menu just got reinforced with remarkable might!

While the 24 Carat gold cappuccino was a luxury served only to the guests on the launch night, watch out for this café, as you never know when they might simply put it up on the menu in bold & gold! For decent interiors, welcoming staff and pretty-looking cakes and meals, The Coffee Club intrigues me, even though I probably won’t be sipping on any more golden coffees the next time I’m here. A detailed review on this outlet and it’s elaborate offerings is soon to turn up in here. Until then, I like to think I have some of that gold still cruising in my bloodstream! Cheers y’all!
